Biomass responses of widely and less?widely naturalized alien plants to artificial light at night

چکیده
Artificial light at night has rapidly increased during the last century, and could potentially affect many ecological processes, from individuals via communities to entire ecosystems. Recent research shown that artificial may not only behaviour of animals but also growth plants vegetation composition. However, it is known yet whether other global change components such as plant invasions. Here, we tested how naturalized alien respond night, particularly widely species differ less-widely in their response night. We grew nine taxonomically related pairs alone competition, with native without found competition treatment, significantly total biomass production per pot, ratio between competitors. Interestingly, although produced overall less than species, there was a trend more strongly did (p = 0.07). Synthesis. Our study shows produce across different environmental conditions, they took advantage This suggests might lead spread currently least when continues increase.

Non-naturalized alien plants receive fewer flower visits than naturalized and native plants in a Swiss botanical garden
Many animal-pollinated plant species have been introduced to non-native regions without their usual pollinators. Nevertheless, some of these alien species managed to establish reproducing naturalized populations, which might negatively affect native plants. Recent studies have shown that many naturalized alien species can readily attract native pollinators. However, it is not known whether alie...
متن کاملArtificial Light at Night and Cancer: Global Study
Background: Artificial light at night (ALAN) has been linked to increased risk of cancers in body sites like the breast and colorectum. However exposure of ALAN as an environmental risk factor and its relation to cancers in humans has never been studied in detail. Objective: To explore the association of ALAN with all forms of cancers in 158 countries. Materials and Methods: An ecological study...
متن کاملArtificial light at night advances avian reproductive physiology.
Artificial light at night is a rapidly increasing phenomenon and it is presumed to have global implications. Light at night has been associated with health problems in humans as a consequence of altered biological rhythms. Effects on wild animals have been less investigated, but light at night has often been assumed to affect seasonal cycles of urban dwellers. Using light loggers attached to fr...
متن کاملLinking biotic homogenization to habitat type, invasiveness and growth form of naturalized alien plants in North America
The introduction of alien species, which are also called exotic or non-native species, can cause a decrease in biotic similarity among areas when different species are introduced to each area and remain localized, a process called biotic differentiation (Olden & Poff, 2003; Qian et al., 2008). However, over time, alien species often spread widely and cause an increase in biotic similarity among...
متن کاملExposure of tropical ecosystems to artificial light at night: Brazil as a case study
Artificial nighttime lighting from streetlights and other sources has a broad range of biological effects. Understanding the spatial and temporal levels and patterns of this lighting is a key step in determining the severity of adverse effects on different ecosystems, vegetation, and habitat types. Few such analyses have been conducted, particularly for regions with high biodiversity, including...
